Pro-Life in a Post-Roe Nation

Well, here we are at last. The day we have prayed for, hoped for, dreamed of, and maybe even despaired of: Roe v. Wade is overturned. As we celebrate our profound victory, we must start planning. What should we do next?

First, let's look at some facts. The overturning of Roe v. Wade did NOT outlaw abortion. The ruling simply returned the decision making to the states, where it originally belonged. Some states will ban abortion. Some will allow a law so thin it will border on infanticide. We have our work cut out for us.

Second, this issue, like most political issues, is a spiritual one. Much damage has been done by the implanting of radical leftists into our government, education, and media. People are so blinded that they cannot see the damage abortion does to individuals and society. They refuse to see the correlation between the rise in child abuse and neglect and the abortion rate. They are conned into thinking this is about women's rights, while denying the rights of unborn women.

Even more, they cannot see that killing a baby is wrong. This issue is a heart issue. And that will only change with prayer and education.

Should we work to change laws? By all means! Get involved in local politics, elect pro-life representatives at all levels (even if an office holder has no present influence on legislation, later they may end up holding an office that does. And that little position they hold now may be the stepping stone that gets them there).

Only God can change hearts. We need to attack the abortion issue with prayer, much prayer, and more prayer. And fasting. Education may change the mind of a person who is still reachable. We have no idea who that may be, so we need to speak the truth. Always. With love and grace.

Overturning Roe is a great victory. But we must not rest on our laurels. Now the real work begins.

Silence is Consent

In a desperate attempt to match the depravity of New York, Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker proposed sweeping changes to Illinois abortion law. Please follow the link below to contact your representatives and voice your opposition to HB 2495 and 2467. It's quick and easy. All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men (and women) to do nothing.

Crashing At The Bottom Of The Slippery Slope

The Downhill Slide

The slippery slope precipitated by the Roe v. Wade decision, long predicted by pro-life advocates and mocked by pro-abortion lobbies and mainstream media, has finally arrived. On January 22, 2019, a date that should live long in infamy, a far-reaching abortion bill, euphemistically named the Reproductive Health Act, was passed by the New York legislature and signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Abortion rights - whose rights?

The bill is couched in lovely terms - "We’re saying that here in New York, women’s health matters," said Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers. "We’re saying here in New York, women’s lives matter. We’re saying here in New York, women’s decisions matter."  The question is, which women? Apparently a woman's health and life only matter if she has reached a certain age, that is, one second after birth. Prior to that, she doesn't matter at all. Under New York law, a baby that survives an abortion attempt is not deemed worthy of comfort care. It can be left to die, pitifully alone, simply because the mother has decided it is unwanted.

Picking up speed

The new law also removes late-term abortions (over 24 weeks) from the criminal code. It is no longer a crime to cause the death of an unborn baby during a criminal act. This troubles the Democrat legislature not one bit. . . . Democrats said there are plenty of criminal charges that could be brought against suspects in domestic-violence cases involving pregnant women. The loss of that wanted and loved baby is a non-issue, as is the mother's grief and pain. The baby doesn't matter.

But apparently this law is not enough. The governor has stated that he wants to add "abortion rights" to the state constitution, to make it even more difficult to change the law back to protecting tiny humans before birth.

So what, you say. It's still a baby inside a woman, so she gets to make the decision.

Not so fast.

Faceplant

On January 30, 2019, Virginia Governor Democrat Ralph Northam, apparently emboldened by New York, tried to justify his support of H.B. 2491, or the Repeal Act, sponsored by Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran, also a Democrat. H.B. 2491 is another heinous act that proposes to allow abortions up to the point of delivery, even during labor. "If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered," the governor added. "The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians & mother," said the governor. He claims that his comments were related to babies with severe deformities or are non-viable, as though that somehow makes it better.

Unfortunately, abortion can be logically connected to infanticide. If a baby doesn't matter before 24 weeks, why should it matter at 40? If it doesn't matter before birth, why should it matter after? These are the ugly questions gnawing at the back of the mind which the pro-abortion lobby tries to ignore, but they just won't go away.

What can we learn?

There are three lessons we can learn from all of this. First, elections have consequences. The Republicans held the New York chamber for a decade, but Democrats voted in last November took control of the Senate. This abortion bill followed 2 months later. The proposed H.B. 2491 has been tabled by the Republican-controlled Virginia Congress. There is no such thing as a moderate Democrat any more.

Second, actions have consequences. Making fun of something, mocking an idea, publishing political cartoons and essays, vilifying your political opponents, etc., won't change the truth. Those pesky facts just keep popping up.

Third, inaction has consequences too. The only way these bills could even have been considered is because of the silence of those who knew better. The unwillingness of conservatives to rock the boat has contributed much to these previously unthinkable laws. The question is, what will we do now? Will we continue to be silent or will we risk the wrath of the radical Left by raising our voices in protest?

Who really sees?

11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.

12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done? Proverbs 24:11-12

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Freedom of Choice? Not For Pro-Lifers

In recent weeks, the Obama administration has come under fire for announcing its decision to force religious institutions to pay for contraceptives and abortifacients for their employees against their conscience and freedom of choice. The employers of said institutions rose up in righteous indignation and the Obama administration tried to appease them with a shell-game tactic by stating that their insurance will instead have to pay for these products, the same insurance whose premiums are paid for by the religious institutions themselves.

Tomorrow, Friday March 23rd at people around the nation will gather in their cities to protest this outrageous mandate. Here in Chicago they will meet at the Federal Plaza, 50 W. Adams St. Come join like-minded people and let your voice be heard. Don't let our religious freedom be stripped away!
